Soil Safe Gives Scholarships to 2018 Winners at Carteret High School
It was truly difficult to decide the winners of the 2018 Soil Safe scholarship at Carteret High School, as the guidance department generated a record number of graduating seniors pursuing a career in Science, Technology, Engineering andMath.
In the end, after careful review, Soil Safe is proud to announce the two winners: Nimra Nadeem and Carlos Veira. Both will be continuing their studies at universities in New Jersey.
For the 4thyear in a row,Soil Safe representatives were on hand May 20 at the high school auditorium to provide $500 checks to each of the deserving students. They were carefully selected, based on their academic achievement, focus on the future and financial need.
For Nimra, attending Monmouth University in West Long Branch this fall is monumental for her family. Her parents are from Pakistan, and she is the first family member to attend college. She has two younger siblings who look up to her and are tremendously proud of her academic successes.
“I am so grateful to Soil Safe for this scholarship; it means so much to me,” Nimra said. “I’ve always loved helping people, so Soil Safe is helping make it possible for me to study medicine and science.”
Nimra plans to major in clinical laboratories, concentrating in medicine, with the goal of being a physicians’ assistant. She will be relying on loans to attend the private school, with tuition of more than $26,000 a year, which is why the scholarship is so invaluable.
“Thank you so much, Soil Safe!,” she said. “You are definitely helping me out!”
For Carlos, his goal is to attend Rutgers University and play soccer in the Big Ten Conference. He also wants to study mechanical engineering and computers.
Rutgers is near and dear to his heart, and his two older siblings already attend the state university. He will be a tremendous asset to the school, graduating with a 4.0 GPA, a member of the National Honor Society and the varsity captain in soccer.
“I am really appreciative to Soil Safe because of the support to my high school,” Carlos said. “Sometimes, Carteret kids don’t get the same level of financial support that kids from other towns get.
“That’s why I really like Soil Safe and all it does for graduating seniors,” he said. “The company has helped out for a few years now, and it has really made a difference to a lot of people.”
