Salem Landfill Closure Demonstration Project
Soil Safe developed its soil recycling process and application of its product in Maryland during the 1980’s and early 1990’s. In 1996, Soil Safe entered the market in New Jersey by performing a full-scale demonstration of its capabilities by closing the City of Salem Landfill. Soil Safe constructed and permitted a 200 ton per hour Class B Recycling Center Facility on the landfill and imported 1.5 million tons of petroleum contaminated soil to be processed into low-permeability material to cover the landfill and control runoff in accordance with the City’s design. The final capping and close-out to create a usable property for the City was photo-documented with pictures and video. Clips and stills have been made into a short video.
